TIMÓN Project: an example of collaboration between Fundación Iberdrola España and Fundación Alcándara–Proyecto Hombre Salamanca
- Fundación Iberdrola España’s Social Programme supports more than 40 social organisations each year.
- Fundación Alcándara–Proyecto Hombre Salamanca delivers treatment and social reintegration programmes for people experiencing addiction, with specialised support for those with dual diagnosis or associated mental health conditions.
Since 2019, describes how Fundación Iberdrola España has funded the TIMÓN Project through its Futuro con Energía Social Programme. The initiative provides comprehensive support for people with substance use disorders, particularly those living with dual diagnosis, understood as the coexistence of an addiction and a mental health condition.
The project is delivered through Fundación Alcándara–Proyecto Hombre Salamanca’s two main care services: the Day Centre in Salamanca and the Therapeutic Community in Carbajosa de la Sagrada. Through these facilities, participants receive support tailored to their individual needs and stage of recovery. The organisation promotes healthy lifestyles, personal and social skills development, emotional management, self-care and health education. It also addresses risk and protective factors associated with relapse and offers dedicated support to families, recognising their vital role in the recovery process.
The programme also includes group activities and psychoeducational workshops focused on relapse prevention, improving social interaction, personal development and preparation for social and labour market integration, helping participants to achieve a stable and sustainable recovery.
During an institutional visit to the facilities where the TIMÓN Project is carried out, the President of Fundación Iberdrola España, Jaime Alfonsín, accompanied by Manuel Muiños, Managing Director of Fundación Alcándara–Proyecto Hombre Salamanca; Teresa Rodríguez de Tembleque, Head of Social Projects at Fundación Iberdrola España; and Miguel Calvo, Iberdrola’s Delegate in Castile and León, had the opportunity to see first-hand the organisation’s work and the impact of the project on people experiencing addiction and dual diagnosis.
“The TIMÓN Project reflects Fundación Iberdrola España’s commitment, through its Social Programme, to initiatives that take a comprehensive approach to some of today’s key social challenges, including addiction and mental health, by supporting solutions that improve people’s quality of life. Our partnership with Fundación Alcándara–Proyecto Hombre Salamanca demonstrates that collaboration between organisations is essential to delivering effective programmes capable of generating a meaningful and lasting impact on society,” said Jaime Alfonsín, President of Fundación Iberdrola España.
“We would like to thank Fundación Iberdrola España for the trust it has placed in our work over the years. Its support has enabled us to consolidate the TIMÓN Project and provide specialised care for an increasingly common reality within our programmes: people with substance use disorders who also experience mental health conditions or dual diagnosis. This situation requires comprehensive interventions, specialised teams and resources adapted to increasingly complex needs. Thanks to this collaboration, we can continue to provide specialised, holistic and high-quality support to the people and families who need it most,” said Manuel Muiños, Managing Director of Fundación Alcándara–Proyecto Hombre Salamanca.
This year, the project is expected to support 145 direct beneficiaries. Of these, 52 are people with substance use disorders and co-occurring psychiatric conditions, mental health challenges or intellectual disabilities (46 men and 6 women). The project also includes intervention with 93 family members, providing them with guidance, support and tools to strengthen their capabilities and encourage active participation in the therapeutic process. Fundación Alcándara estimates that a further 435 people from the beneficiaries’ family, social and professional networks will benefit indirectly from the initiative.
